Hand-written essay titled "The House of the Seven Gables as a Social Settlement" by Caroline Emmerton. The essay is incomplete, but in the pages we do have, Emmerton describes her purchase of the House of the Seven Gables in 1908 for settlement work. She discusses renovations done by architect Joseph Chandler beginning in 1909 and lists where Settlement classes were subsequently held in the mansion.
