Description |
Gables Doll, 20th Century A hand-painted and carved wooden and jointed peg doll. The doll wears a gray, pink and blue calico dress, red felt hat with a feather, white linen slip and laced hemmed linen pantaloons. The oval head has applied side curls, the legs and the arms have mortise and tenon joints with tiny wooden pegs for articulation. The hair is black, the eyes are blue, and the lips and cheeks are red. The flesh-tone painted hands are whittled points. The whittled shaped legs are painted flesh-tone and the feet are painted red. From around 1920 to the 1980s, the Gables Gift Shop commissioned and sold reproduction peg-jointed dolls with period clothes made by Gables staff and volunteers. |
