Gables Doll, circa 1950 A mid-20th century hand-painted and carved wooden jointed and unclothed peg doll. A round head with black hair, blue eyes and red lips. Mouth is open in a smile The legs and arms have mortise and tenon joints with tiny wooden pegs for articulation. The white painted hands are flattened whittled points. The whittled shaped feet are painted red and white. From around 1920 to the 1980s, the Gables Gift Shop commissioned and sold reproduction peg-jointed dolls with period clothes made by Gables staff and volunteers. |
