Description |
Gables Doll, 20th Century A 20th century hand-painted and carved wooden, unclothed peg doll. The oval head has applied side curls. The hair is blond, the eyes are blue, and the oval mouth is red. The legs and arms have mortise and tenon joints with tiny wooden pegs for articulation. The white painted hands are whittled points. The whittled points shaped feet are painted blue and white. From around 1920 to the 1980s, the Gables Gift Shop commissioned and sold reproduction peg-jointed dolls with period clothes made by Gables staff and volunteers. |
