Description |
Hitchcock Chair, circa 1840. American rosewood grained and stenciled Hitchcock side chair with original decoration. Ring turned crestrail with moulded oblong medial section. Simple wide horizontal splat. Splayed rectanguler cane seat. Ball and ring turned front strectcher with matching front tapered legs ending in ball feet. Owned by Hawthorne family. There is a chalk inscription on the underside of the seat with "RM", ostensibly for Robert Manning, Hawthorne's uncle. |
