Reverse glass painting "Western Beauty", by unknown Chinese artist, circa 1820. One of a pair (160A and 160B) of Chinese export paintings of a young Western woman, in original frame. Reverse painting on glass with eglomise background, An oblong black panel with a center oval containing a shoulder length portrait in polychrome of a lady with long black hair. The figure wears a hat tied to the chin with a ribbon, a dress with a feather and a shawl. |
