Description |
Covered vegetable dish, circa 1850 A mid nineteenth century English Staffordshire Willow Pattern blue and white transfer-printed covered vegetable dish. The square footed base has rounded corners. The conforming straight sides cant outward. The upwardly flaired rim has double integral side handles and a cut corner squared inner recessed lip. The stepped dome fittted cover is square with cut corners and has a recumbent lion finial. The design is repeared on the cover, well and on two sides of the exterior base. The central scene is a typical willow design. A pair of doves, three men on a triple arched bridge, an island, padogas, various trees, a manned boat and an angled fence in the foreground. The outer border has a band of beads within a square followed by various geometric forms, scools, and medallions on a diaper field. The lion finial and handles are coverd in a pattern of repeat octagonals. |
