Reverse glass painting "Western Beauty", by an unknown Chinese artist, circa 1820. One of a pair of Chinese export eglomise paintings of a young Western woman (160A and 160B). Reverse painting on glass with eglomise background. An oblong black panel with a center oval containing a shoulder length portrait in polychrome of a lady with long curly black hair. The figure has a red ribbon in her hair, wears a red dress with a shawl and holds material in her hands. |
