Print, engraving of "The Home of Nathaniel Hawthorne in Raymond, ME," by Louise Howland King Cox, circa 1891. The print shows a white, two-story New England farmhouse with dirt drive and paths among fields. Hawthorne spent many happy days living in this house near Lake Sebago during some of his early years and summers. The house was built by Hawthorne's mother's brother - Richard Manning - who along with his brothers owned thousands of acres of land in southern Maine. |
