Description |
Pitcher, circa 1850 A mid-nineteenth century English blue and white transfer printed glazed pottery pitcher. The pitcher has a circular footed base, bulbous body, cylindrical neck with a molded short spout, plain rim, and applied ribbed handle with a acanthus leaf terminals. There is a wide border on the inner and outer top edge consisiting of a floral motif contained within a heart and separated by a stylized four petal flower and a single lower forget-me-not blossom. The main decoration is repeated on both sides. In the center there is a circular medallion. Around this there are four different chinoiserie floral trophies. The repeated design on the handle consists of four clusters of diamonds, scrolls, and a single daisy. |
