Description |
Pair of Chairs, circa 1810. A pair of early nineteenth century American brown enamel-painted bird cage windsor side chairs made of assorted native woods. The square back has nine (9) triple bamboo turned spindles. Three spindles project through the secondary crest rail and also through the double bamboo turned primary crest rail. The line of the spindles is demarked with an incised line on the seat and a molded edge around the back. The plank seat is indented at the sides. There is an incised line on the upper and lower edges of the seats starting at the indentation. The raking legs have triple bamboo turnings and the box stretchers have double bamboo turnings. |
