Description |
Spice Chest, circa 1850. An American rosewood-grained and painted spice chest, circa 1850 (observed machine milling marks suggest post-1850). The rectangular flat top has a beaded upper edge and ogee moulding on three sides. Six drawers in three rows with three double-height drawers giving the appearance of a nine-drawer cabinet; the double drawers also have two turned mahogany knobs thus the case has twelve knobs in total. The chest has a flat unpainted bottom - no feet or base. Grain-painted finish imitating rosewood. |
