Description |
Rocking Armchair, 18th century American 18th century maple and ash rocking arm chair. A four-back arm chair with graduated slats with straigth lower edges and curved tops. The plainly turned stiles taper upward and are treated with urn-shaped finials. The curvaceous arms are attached to the stiles and are supported by a single turned spindle that is secured to the chair and side stretcher rails. The plainly turned front posts project above the rush seat. Double front stretchers, a matching single rear stretcher and baluster turned and plain side stretchers. Shaped rockers applied to the chair by means of a medial dado joint to the legs. |
