Description |
Apple Peeler, circa 1866 A nineteenth century American cast iron hand cranked apple peeler with embossed lettering "PATENTED BY H. KEYES JUNE 17. + DEC. 16,1866." The peeler attaches to a flat surface by means of an adjustable wingnut at the base. On the right side there are two vertical cog wheels. The flywheel has four quatrefoil openings and a wooded covered handle. Above this is a small gear which controls a three prong end shaft. The prongs go through the apple's core to hold it in place. The shaft of the flywheel controls the embossed horizontal cog wheel that houses the spring action cutting blade. |
